Burning Man | 28th August – 4th September
It would be impossible for us to talk about festivals without mentioning the iconic Burning Man. Unfortunately, unless you have already have a ticket it will be hard to get chance to head to this spectacular event this year, located deep in the Nevada desert at Black Rock City, but rumours have it that the organisers behind the festival are planning an event a little closer by in The Netherlands in 2017! Burning Man is potentially one of the most ‘fair-trade’ festivals out there, leaving no trace once the festival is over and operating on a community basis. Attendees are wholly responsible for creating the magnificent experience and the stages, food, entertainment, clothing and more is provided by a ticketholder, trading their goods or offering or something else is return. This festival forces you to get creative and if you attend you will need to think of something that you too can provide to your fellow ‘burners’, to be truly part of the Black Rock community!
Festival No.6 | 1st – 4th September
Festival Number 6 describes itself as being carefully curated for those who are looking for a more refined weekend, so if you like to party but party in style then this will be perfect for you! Rather than a conventional ‘tents in a field’ type ‘do, Festival Number 6 is based in the picturesque village of Portmeirion, offering up its dose of surreal escapism amongst the incredible, natural surroundings of the coastal village. As well as booking innovative musical acts such as Rosin Murphy, Hot Chip, Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnson, a series of one off experiences such as ‘DJ Yoda does sci fi’, talks by cultural commentators such as Irvine Welsh and a range of gastronomic banquets from Michelin star chefs are available to choose from.
Moovin | 26th - 28th August
We love small, intimate events that allow you to have room to move on the dance floor rather than being wedged within a crowd and Moovin festival, a limited capacity, alternative event, offers just this. Moovin is based in the heart of the countryside at Whitebotham farm, located in South Manchester, providing a weekend of smiling faces and good times with an eco-friendly conscience. Moovin boasts a diverse line up, with acts spanning across the genres of underground music including Stanton Warriers, Justin Robertson, Congo Natty and Goldie.
On Blackheath | 10th-11th September
As the name suggests, On Blackheath was created with an aim of celebrating the beauty that can be found at Blackheath (and all that exists south of the river), by showcasing the best in music, food, art and culture amongst the refreshingly leafy Blackheath backdrop. Children under 12 go free, creating a family friendly atmosphere for nothing but warm hearted good fun. It presents itself as being a place to ‘discover and re-discover your passions and a place to inspire your children’ which is an ethos we love at Crepe Records, and can’t wait to attend! Primal Scream, Hot Chip, Belle and Sebastian, James, RóisínMurphy and more will be providing the soundtrack to the event, making you dance and work off the fantastic meals from the street food market and chef’s banquet from Theo Randall that is also on offer.
Whichever festival you choose to round of your summer of fun, wear your Crepe Records T-shirt proud to stand out on the dance floor!
